Challenge Fund for Youth Employment
The Challenge Fund for Youth Employment (CFYE) is a 6-year programme funded by the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and we proudly announce that we as Marula have won a project with Proteen and Enimiro, in which we will be responsible for the project management, M&E and creative services.
The investment of the fund will allow us to rapidly scale and to solidify ourselves as market leaders, whilst Proteen and Enimiro will scale an innovative and revolutionary solution in the agricultural sector. We will pioneer circular food systems that are more affordable, sustainable and inclusive - by fostering economic growth for 2200 young men and women across Uganda.
As we expand, we will continue to engage with youth in the outgrower and extension teams and encourage various independent projects.
Proteen is the first insect-based 'waste-to protein" facility in Uganda. This future large- scale processing company feeds organic waste to larvae, which are harvested and further refined into animal feed, oil, and fertilizer.
Enimiro is an agriculture company based on promoting a permaculture farming system, a mix of crops such as coffee, vanilla, banana, BSF, pineapples or bees, to smallholder farmers ensuring economic sustainability. The company provides microfinance solutions to smallholder farmers so that they can access additional services like value addition, farm inputs and crops insurance.
